Spider-Man (PS1)

Web slinging is defiantly a brilliant profession. I've done it for 4 years now. It's fantastic leaping from building to building holding transparent webbing shouting "IM SPIDERMAN!" like Tarzan with a megaphone. Nah not really but I know a guy who does do this. Your average Joe, Peter Parker, is visiting a technology expo when suddenly Spiderman turns up and steals a machine designed by Dr. Otto Octavious but it can't be Spider-Man… can it?

No it can't. Peter is Spiderman and we all know this. But who was the impostor? Throughout the game you meet Spider-Mans most famous villains and they're all reasonable as they are wearing their old 2000 cartoon/comics costumes and they rock! Game play in the game is smooth; it's very slick and responsive. Web swinging works, even if it is a simple mechanic, it works very well. There isn't a building you can see that you couldn't get onto. The loading of the game is iffy, it's a bit pixelated but it makes sense, it uses the "Silent Hill" technique where it would use mist as a "load over time" as the mist hides things so the game can run smoother without modelling a full city for you to adventure through.

The game has a lot to offer the region of unlockables and extras as the game has so much in it. The game works in chapters like a comic series and its issues. They all have graphic art as their covers done by the real artists of the comics. Also alternate costumes for Spider-Man such as Captain America and Spider-Man Unlimited. There are a lot of references to the Fantastic Four in the game but no sign of them… which is strange but HEY? Whatever. I'm not entirely sure I like them that much anyway.

Only bad things I can think of for this game is that it's unreasonably short. Easily completable in about 6hours. Of course if you want the extras then you'll have to play a bit more and be controller savvy with your controls but still, it's easy and quick. Kid Mode in the difficulty selection is a nice addition I wish more games had, so many forums are scattered with people saying a game is too hard because they're too stupid to listen to the controls and follow the same routine throughout the entire game. Kid Mode would fix these problems because Kid Mode is a difficulty where nothing can really beat you and you won't find anything challenging. Kid Mode is good for hardcore gamers if you're up for easy time… it happens.

Haters gonna hate but anyone who's played the movie games will see this game as a god send. There are no flaws. It's Spidey perfection.
